Alta Community Enrichment (ACE) does just what their name implies – they work to enrich the community of Alta, locals and guests alike, by bringing arts, culture and education to Little Cottonwood Canyon! This organization was started in mid-1970’s by locals meeting in each others living rooms learning about art together. Over the years, it has blossomed into a 501c3 non-profit organization with over 70 events each year and has awarded over $23,000.00 of grant money to the local school, artists and those brining culture and education into our community!

The Town of Alta serves guests and locals and everyone is invited to Alta Community Enrichment events! They hold events year round and many have become traditions for guests of the Canyon, most notably: The Telluride Mountain Film Festival, Snowflake Festival & Chili Cook Off, and in the summer the Wildflower Festival and Wasatch Art Soiree. Each event serves to fulfill ACE’s mission to create “opportunities in the community for individual and group participation in arts, cultural events and education”. In addition to their big annual events ACE invites the community to gather together throughout each month for activities such as yoga, block print making, knitting, dancing and much, much more! Sara Gibbs, Executive Director, shared with me that they strive to offer experiences that folks otherwise would not encounter or seek out on their own.

Alta Community Enrichment puts its money into the community through a number of different grants that all foster arts, culture and education in Alta! They have four grants that community members can apply for: Artists Grant, Wexl Education Grant, Young Guns Grant, and Community Service Grant. These grants, while different in criteria, all are awarded to Little Cottonwood Canyon community members who bring aspects of culture, art and education into their work.

Alta Community Enrichment wouldn’t be the organization it is today without their Executive Director, Sara Gibbs. Her background is in art and through her role at ACE she has taught herself everything from grant writing to learning how to throw the perfect Welcome to Winter party! She works to ensure that her community is served well by ACE, its events and the grants they offer. She is a go getter who enjoys her work with the community and has a deep love and respect for Alta!
