To all our veterans, thank you on behalf of America and the people around the world who have benefited from your service and sacrifice. Veterans Day on the mountain was quiet… and oddly lacking in snow. However, Canyon Blog has it on good authority that although there’s no snow on Baldy or Hidden Peak today (see banner photo), the snow gods have promised that by the end of next week we’ll be swimming in it. Truly.

But back to our veterans. Your correspondent stopped by Wasatch Adaptive Sports at Snowbird yesterday and spent time talking with Alex Mansir and Dave Shoeneck, two instructors at this unparalleled adaptive needs outdoor program. WAS specializes in assisting qualified individuals and their families in experiencing mountain and snow sports, and even bowling. From back country skiing to mountain bikes, they’ll immerse participants fully, provide gear, instruction and companionship. And their staff expertise level is unrivaled. This is where vets come in. WAS also accepts veterans and many staff members are vets themselves so they understand where you’re coming from. You can find them at

For those veterans of wars past, this canyon twilight’s for you.

Until the snows fly…

Sunset over the mountains.
