Well, the ski season is finally over. Wait, that’s a horrible lie. True, the lifts are shut, even Snowbird’s limited weekend offerings. But for those of us still in the canyon there’s plenty of snow under your alpine touring skis. And if you’re lucky enough to be lodged in one of our premiere canyon properties it’s not too late to ski out the door, up the canyon to Alta, hang a right at Sugarloaf, top out, drop in on Collins and traverse back to luxury. Today’s conditions were soft but here’s the kicker, your blogger had the mountain to himself. And at the top, he bagged the skins, locked his heels and headed home for a well-deserved glass of wine and a sunny balcony. People count in two and a half hours of skiing: zero. Alternatively you could toss your snowshoes in the car. Personally, Canyon Blog is not ready to resort to the shoe.

Ski Alta and Snowbird Without a Crowd

So come on up for a weekend stay before Memorial day, or better still, ditch work and do a midweek escape before the last of the snow’s gone and the summer hikers arrive. Canyon Blog also has it on good authority that The Cliff Spa is honoring its Mother’s Day specials till the end of the month (801 933-2225 for details). But it’s ten days tops before the snow’s done so don’t tell your friends or you’ll end up sharing the mountain. And who wants that?

Spot the human…A hard to see person on a snowy and tree-lined mountain.
